Silvia Chiesa – Maurizio Baglini play Saint Saëns




Silvia Chiesa studied cello with Rocco Filippini and gained her degree at Conservatorio of Milano at the age of 19, after which she partecipated in master classes with Antonio Janigro and Mario Brunello. She won several national and international Chamber Music Competitions and received special prizes for the best contemporary music performance. Chiesa performs with some Italian Orchestras and she made her London debut at the Barbican Hall in 1998, performing Beethoven’s Triple Concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Music Director Daniele Gatti, and subsequently touring with them in Switzerland and Italy.
In 2004 she made also her American debut performing Saint Saens cello concert in tour receiving a warm welcome from the audience and very good rewiews:

After her acclaimed performance of Schumann’s cello concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (concert in residence at Cadogan Hall, London in May 2006) under the baton of Brian Wright, she immediately received a new invitation to perform Rota’s cello 1st Concert and Tchaikovsky Rococò Variations with the Maidstone Symphony Orchestra in season 2008.
Mrs Chiesa has always been attracted by chamber music repertoire and regularly plays with many eminent musicians, among them Mario Brunello, Bruno Canino, Alicha De Larrocha, Rocco Filippini, Raina Kabaiwanska, Andrea Lucchesini, Shlomo Mintz, Danilo Rossi, Franco Petracchi, Wolfram Christ.
From 1997 to 2002 she has been cellist of the Trio Italiano.
With the trio she performed in such prestigious venues as Settimane Musicali di Stresa, Istituzione Universitaria Concerti di Roma, Musica Insieme chamber music season at Bologna Opera House, Orchestra Sinfonica G. Verdi di Milano, Scarlatti di Napoli, Amici della Musica of Perugia and the Societe’ Philarmonique de Bruxelles. Highlights of the Trio’s performances include the complete cycle of Schumann Piano Trios for Unione Musicale in Torino, the Beethoven Piano Trios performed at Teatro del Bibiena in Mantova which were broadcast live by Rai.Sat Show.
With Trio Italiano she also recorded the complete series of Schubert Piano Trios (Arts) using the new technology of audio-DVD and receiving amazing reviews “…a lightness and freedom that make music palpitating, in one word the truly simplicity of Schubert” (Diapason), “…between all existing records, this one is the most complete, bounding a solid architectural project with the freedom of. musical narration” (CD Classica).
Nowadays she has a permanent duo with the pianist Maurizio Baglini: beside an extensive concert activity, they are making many records together, among them the Saint Saens’s complete cello and piano work (issue in June 2008) and a CD including a piece dedicated to the duo by the composer itself, Azio Corghi, one of the most interesting personality in the contemporary music panorama. This CD also includes Chopin’s and Debussy’s cello and piano sonatas.
Her attentive sensibility to contemporary music repertoire has always attracted living composers. She executed many world premieres of Boccadoro, Bortolotti, Clementi, D’Amico, Dall’Ongaro, Davies, Mosca, Scannavini, Sollima and Vandor.
She appeared on scene in several Countries, such as: USA, Belgium, Brazil, China, France, UK, Iceland, Israël, Lebanon, Russia.
