Federico Gardella, composer
Federico Gardella was born in Milan in 1979.
He studied piano graduating at the Conservatory of Milan with Piero Rattalino and Riccardo Risaliti and at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Klaus Hellwig. He studied composition at the Conservatory of Milan graduating with Sonia Bo.
Afterwards he has improved with Azio Corghi at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and with Alessandro Solbiati at the summer courses in Sermoneta and at the Conservatory of Milan, where he got his Composition Master’s Degree “cum Laude”.
Significantly important in his artistic development has been the acquaintance with Brian Ferneyhough and Toshio Hosokawa.
He has received various awards at national and international composition competitions, including the Tansman International Competition of Musical Personalities in Lodz and, in 2009, he was awarded in Japan the Takefu International Composition Award.
In 2010 he was composer in residence at the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte and, for the 2011, he has been nominated composer in residence at the Compagnie Nationale de Théâtre Lyrique et Musical ARCAL in Paris.
His works have been commissioned by Divertimento Ensemble, Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte, Orchestra della Toscana, Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali, Résonance Contemporaine, Takefu International Music Festival and Trieste Prima.
